Update: Manohara Case

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has fixed March 11 to decide on the amount of damages to be paid by the estranged wife and mother-in-law of the Tengku Temenggong of Kelantan, Tengku Muhammad Fakhry Sultan Ismail Petra, in the defamation suit he filed against them.

Senior assistant registrar Noordura Mohamed Din set the date in her chambers at the Jalan Duta court complex here Wednesday.

Tengku Muhammad Fakhry’s counsel Mohd Haaziq Pillay said the claims made by Cik Puan Temenggong Manohara Odelia Pinot and her mother Daisy Fajarina against the Kelantan prince were not supported by evidence.

“The motives behind the defamatory statements are questionable and may be deduced from the current dispute in the Kelantan palace,” he told reporters after Noordura heard his submissions in her chambers.

Tengku Muhammad Fakhry, 32 married Manohara, an 18-year-old former Indonesian model on Aug 26, 2008.

Manohara fled from her husband on May 31 last year while they were in Singapore to visit the Sultan of Kelantan at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital.

She returned to Jakarta after accusing her husband of physically and sexually abusing her, claims which were reported widely in the Indonesian and Malaysian media.

On July 20 last year, the third son of the Kelantan sultan filed a RM105mil defamation suit against Manohara and her mother Daisy, 45, for allegedly defaming him at several press conferences last April and June.

On Nov 5, the High Court allowed the prince to enter a judgement in default against both defendants after they failed to engage new lawyers for the suit...source: thestar
